The late captain Elechi Amadi was among the first generation of African writers and novelists.
Elechi Amadi

He celebrated his 80th birthday in Port Harcourt, in 2014 releasing a souvenir edition of one of his plays, Isiburu to mark his 80th birthday.

He was born on 12 May, 1934 in Aluu community, Ikwerre local government area.

He attended Government college , Umuahia and went to the University college, Ibadan where he bagged a BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics.

He served in the 3rd Marine Commandos of the Nigerian Army. He was first Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers state and also served as Commissioner for Lands and Housing

The Director General, NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside described him as a great Nigerian who will be greatly missed.

His words, “Captain Elechi Amadi, certainly was a man of many parts who touched lives in many ways. And he will be remembered for good by many people who met him physically or through his books. He was a well known author, publisher, soldier and statesman who was concerned about a better society.

“My generation will definitely remember him more for his great books like the Concubine, the Great Ponds, Sunset in Biafra, Estrangement, the Slave and a collection of poems.

“It is regrettable that Amadi passed away at a time when Rivers, our dear state is still far away from the aspirations of its founding fathers like him and most sons and daughters of the state. There is no doubt that Elder Elechi Amadi and other founding fathers will be weeping in their graves at the state of Rivers State. Nigeria and the international literary community has lost a creative giant.

“The departed patriot, no doubt, had a remarkable life and he will surely be remembered for serving humanity with literature and his interventions.

May his soul find eternal rest in the Lord.”

Ever Considered Working From Home?

Matthew Parker from Lagos never thought that he would work online, until curiosity got the best of him and he filled out a simple online form. Before he knew it, he discovered his secret to beating the recession, and being able to provide for his family while at home with his three children.

I read Matthew's blog last month and decided to feature his story in our weekly consumer report. In our phone interview he told me his amazing story. "I actually make about £5,200-£6,200 a month working from home. It's enough to comfortably replace my old jobs' income, especially considering I only work about 15-18 hours a week from home.
Working online has been a financial windfall for Matthew, who struggled for months to find a decent job but kept hitting dead ends. "I lost my job shortly after the recession hit, I needed reliable income, I was not interested in the "get rich quick" scams you see all over the internet. Those are all pyramid scams or stuff which you have to sell to your friends and family. I just needed a legitimate way to earn a living for me and my family. The best part of working online is that I am always home with the kids. Thanks to the Online Wealth Markets Kit I am giving my kids the childhood they deserve."

I asked him about how he started his life-changing journey. "It was pretty easy, I filled out a short form and applied for a work-at-home kit. There is a small activation fee; it's not really free but it was only £205. I got the kit and within four weeks I was making over £3,200 a month. It's really simple, I am not a computer whiz, but I can use the internet. I don't even have to sell anything and nobody has to buy anything. Companies are constantly recruiting people for this, you should try it."

The companies you work with are worth over 100 billion dollars and are the most used sites in the internet market place, like Amazon, Google, Walmart, Delta, Apple and more... You're using the top ranked sites in the world, over 50 percent of all internet traffic flows through them everyday. It's a great opportunity and this has been helping people work at home for over 5 years. Why not get in with the internet's best and biggest companies?

There are plenty of scams on the internet claiming you can make £30,200 a month, but that is exactly what they are - scams. From my conversation with Matthew, "I am making a good salary from home, which is amazing, under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day that I filled out that form."

Quickly, Matthew Parker was able to use the simple Online Wealth Markets to make it out of the recession.

The young girl wore a dress slightly above her knee. That was her offense. The randy and horny touts at the motor park descended on her allegedly trying to seduce them.
They kept pulling her panties until it tore all in a bid to undress her. Even when one of the touts had a rethink and bundled the girl into a bus for safety, The other touts dragged her down and continued the assault.

A primary school pupil in China was brutally punished by his teacher for giving the wrong answer to a maths question. 11-yr-old Xiao Yong was left with dozens of bloody marks on his back and legs after his maths teacher whipped him with a power cable.
According to reports, Xiao Yong was asked by Yue to go up to the classroom and answer a maths question written on the blackboard. When he failed to answer the question correctly, the teacher got enraged, picked a power cable in the classroom and savagely scarred his body.

On the boy's return home, he didn't inform his family until one of his cousins discovered the scars after hearing him complaining about aches on his body. Shocked to see the red whipping scars, they quickly rushed him to a local hospital where he was admitted for three days.

After hearing his account of what happened, they immediately went to report the teacher to the authorities. Officials from the local educational bureau confirmed the incident after an investigation and the teacher was immediately suspended by the Xianglu Village Central Primary School in the city of Shiyan, central China's Hubei Province.

A spokesman from the Primary School said Yue had lived under much pressure recently and must have reacted in a 'bad mood'. He was however suspended from his position.
Yue has apologised to Xiao Yong - who is recovering from his injuries.

A U.S. based man has accused Ghanaian actor Van Vicker of having an affair with his wife.  The popular actor(pictured with the woman) is married to Adjoa Vicker and they have three kids together.
According to Ghnews360.com, the man identified as Dr. Bartum Kulah who is based in Atlanta Georgia, said the actor is having physical and emotional affair with his wife, Clarice Ford-Kulah who claims to be Vicker’s Manager and Business partner.

"My wife will deny the accusations and claim to be Van Vicker’s Manager and Business partner, that’s what she always says, it’s all a cover up, and I’ve caught them at a hotel twice", Dr. Bartum Kulah.

Dr Kulah said they have been married for long years with two children, a boy and girl but his wife Clarice Ford-Kulah does not care about the children, all she knows is travelling with van vicker.

"She has been in Accra since Wednesday to premiere the film Skinned at the Silverbird, they will then go to Liberia to premiere the same film next Saturday, not only that but sleeping with my wife anywhere they go to premiere the movie. This is the second trip in a year. They have traveled to Haiti, Liberia, Nigeria, Ireland and multiple cities in the US. I really have evidence to show that Van Vicker is sleeping with my wife and even warned my wife on that but still they are doing it".

Dr. Bartum Kulah has warned that "This is part one. I will bring all the pictures and videos. I mean all the evidence out if they refuse to stop especially Van Vicker"

Dr. Clarice Ford-Kulah has debunked the allegations by her husband. According to the mother-of-two, the allegations are totally untrue. She says her husband is very insecure and has been "harassing" all her male friends for years.
She responded to the allegations in a statement released today. Read the full statement below:

"In response to the recent rumors trending on the internet concerning Van Vicker and I, none of it is true. Neither Van nor myself would do such a thing. We both have families that we love and care about dearly. Van and I have worked together professionally and as a family for over five years and have never encountered such nonsense accusations.
My husband has security issues due to an accident that has completely interrupted his life. He has been harassing all of my male friends, including pastors, ministers, and deacons for years and I chose to ignore.
However, this accusation is too ridiculous for me to ignore because it is in the public domain.
Further, it is my understanding that my husband is going through some type of medical crisis. I will be returning to the US shortly to deal with this situation and would love my family to be left alone whiles dealing with this unfortunate situation privately.

I am currently in Liberia attending to business. While here, we will be premiering our film along with another business associate who also flew in with me from the States to attend both the Ghana and Liberia premieres of the movie ‘Skinned’.
I assure everyone that there is no evidence of any sort to back up these baseless claims by my husband. Whatever pictures and videos he says he can produce will be of us going in and out of events premises, pick ups and drop offs. None of these pics or video will be compromising in any way.

Again, I am asking that these rumors be put to rest. Van Vicker is my client and ‘family’.
Dr. Clarice Ford-Kulah"

Hi there, nice to meet you.

Same here.

So can we know you?
Name is Rosy Omeje from Nsukka, Enugu state. Born in Enugu, grew up in Kano, Sixth child, last girl in the family of 7.
Currently a student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Tell us a little about your family
Like I said, we are seven kids with both parents still living. Four males and three females, of which I am the last. In my family, you are meant to do what is expected of you, anything contrary without good reasons is frowned upon.

Whoa that is one big family. So how is life and growing up in a family where you have enough people competing for attention?
It was fun, literally the best thing that has happened to me. I would just say that I was placed in a creative and lovely family. A place where bad behaviors aren't treated lightly. Actually, we don’t compete for attention because we were all given maximum attention.
So you are trying to say that the seven of you were given whatever it is you needed or asked for?
Yes, to an extent. The thing is the first set had already reached the age of demanding less when the second set reached the stage of demanding more, same thing with the last set. That is to say that my elder siblings were already leaving the house when the younger ones were just coming of age. So there wasn’t much of a competition.
That’s cool. So who inspires you?

My DAD! He is my inspiration, my mentor. He is the strict kind of guy who demands explanation about everything you do and reasons why you didn’t do certain things. My DAD can sit for hours ‘chatting’ with you. Even with his disciplinary measures, he was and is still fun to have around. With my DAD, there are no dull moments. Growing up with such a disciplinarian made me think I was hated in my own house, but now I see the reason for all the yelling and spanking, so when you think your parents hates you and wants to force you out of the house, just relax and watch out for what they are trying to save you from.

While growing up what were your dreams and aspirations?
Hahaha! Most people know the answer to that. A regular kid while growing up is always thinking of being a doctor, but when you get to senior secondary and find yourself in the art or commerce department then you would switch your mind over to law or accountancy and vice-versa. But reality sets in when you find yourself going through the JAMB brochure. Everyone has different things in mind; there are some who get what they want but are not satisfied with it and there are others who don’t get what they want but feel like they have gotten it all, there is a problem if one is part of those who get the opportunity to study what they want but aren’t at peace with it. Some would just live with it; others would decide to keep searching. I am one of those who didn’t get what i wanted but feel like i have gotten it all. Most times when I sit down to think about what would have happened if I had gotten what I wanted, I realize that I would have lots of regrets. I am not saying that one shouldn’t pursue his dream but come to think of it; what if it’s something you may not have passion for or other people are making you imagine? It’s not about pursuing something you are good at; it’s about having passion for that, being at peace with it and getting satisfaction from it.
Have you ever thought of going into modeling?
Yeah. I have been nursing the idea since I realized I was taller than my peers. I found myself surfing the internet and searching for agencies, organizations or any group scouting for young aspiring models. Before I clocked sixteen, I had registered myself with a lot of modeling agencies both local, national, international and globally. At first my aim was to sit back, observe and learn what is being done, what is to be done, and what is expected of you when you become a model. Back then I had various collections of videos showing how to catwalk, stand and turn like a model; I always practiced cat walking in my spare time, I got so used to it that it started affecting my own way of walking. People would just stop me on the streets to say ‘are you aware that you are cat walking naturally?’ and I would ask them what they meant and they would ask me ‘is your Mum a model?’ and then I would laugh and take the compliment as a joke. But it became a problem when some of my friends started complaining; they would say ‘what is she even feeling like? Does she think she is the only one that knows how to do that stuff?’ I couldn’t help it; i tried to stop and correct it by watching my feet while walking to make sure they don’t cross, but I was only making things worse. I had to accept and live with it. So when someone says ‘I think your catwalk is inborn’ I would just laugh and say ‘that’s nice, but I think its nature’s gift to me’.
Have you ever gone for an audition?

No.
Why? You haven’t found anyone that suits you?

Not really.
So why haven’t you gone for one? You seem like someone ready for anything.
Well, when I felt I had watched enough videos and learnt a lot about modeling I decided to give it a try just for the fun of it, I wasn’t even thinking of the crown.
I told my parents about it; my DAD bluntly said NO! He is one of those who feel that anyone going into that doesn’t have a nice future especially girls, and people would take her to come from a wayward and irresponsible home. I wouldn’t blame him because most things we hear about celebrities now are no longer pleasing to the ears, I believe he didn’t want me to end up like that. I was determined to try it out so I talked to my Mum; I told her the advantage and benefits accrued to it. She decided to talk to my DAD; he called me and was like ‘if things go wrong, you are on your own’. Without delay, I rushed to pick a form for an upcoming contest I stumbled upon; which fell on my birthday. After the necessary payment and registration, I waited patiently for the day to come. But things began to fall apart when my parents had to travel for a wedding the same week the audition was coming up, leaving me and my younger brother at home. I almost ran mad when my Mum told me about it. I pleaded with her; I knew my pleas won’t yield anything because they had to attend the wedding. After lamenting I just had to forget it believing that the one meant for me would soon come.
Have you being involved in any online contest?
Uhmm, Yes. A handful of them.
Which ones?
I can’t remember them all. I only remember; Snapp Nigeria Facebook fan page, skyworld entertainment, African women, international models, stylmodels and a host of others.
You mentioned snapp Nigeria, can you tell us about it because we know snapp to be a drink?
Yes, me too. I think they just did it for fun, but the winners were given prices
After submitting your picture, you wait for it to be selected and uploaded on their page. Before my picture was even submitted, others have gotten lots of likes and shares. I couldn’t follow up quickly because my school work wasn’t light that semester, and it lasted only for a week, so I had to forget it.
How did you hear about Mr. & Miss Facebook Nigeria?
I saw it online while surfing the internet.
And you decided to give it a try?
At first I didn’t want to; I knew I wouldn’t follow it up because school was in session. But when I realized it was the first of its kind I decided to go for it. Knowing that I was among the first to contest was enough to make me give it my best; even if I don’t win,

Judging from the previous statistics; you were ranking second, but towards the end of the contest you just blew up, what really happened?
My school went on holiday, that’s what happened.
First, I took my time to watch other contestants. I selected the top three to know who I was competing with. I realized that the person ahead of me had gone very far. But I noticed something too; the contestants only focused on their Facebook posts, no one was interested in the website. Then I came up with a strategy; I read the voting instructions very well and I found out that votes on the website were also included and I decided to take advantage of that since the others weren’t putting efforts there.
Because it was during the holiday, I was able to convince my friends to vote for me on the website. To my greatest surprise, before long I had a lot of comments and votes on the website. A week before the end of the contest, some friends were going to my Facebook post from the website and I was able to get enough likes that put me ahead of the three people I had selected.
How did you feel when you were announced the winner?
To be honest I was shocked and overwhelmed. I didn’t prepare myself for it; when I saw the people I was competing with, I knew I was lost.
Congratulations! It was nice chatting with you.
Thanks. The pleasure is all mine.
