While Nigerians were celebrating Christmas in their homes, a housewife, Christiana Odo, allegedly killed her husband, Rominus, for his inability to provide money for the family for the celebration.

The incident happened at the couple’s home on London Barber Street, Majidun, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

It was said that 37yrs old Christiana had asked the husband for cash for food to celebrate Christmas but the husband had said he didn’t have any money.

This was said to have led to a quarrel between the couple, which degenerated into a fight.

In the ensuing scuffle, Christiana, a mother of three, picked a kitchen knife, with which she stabbed her husband to death.

A police source told Punch that the incident happened around 5.20pm, throwing the community into confusion.

He said, “The woman asked the man for money for food, but the man turned her down, saying he didn’t have money. This led to an argument and the man hit her. They fought and the woman, in anger, went into the kitchen and got a knife with which she stabbed him to death.

“What attracted neighbours was the man’s scream for help as he was drenched in blood. The woman said it was not intentional.”

The landlord was said to have reported the case to policemen from the Owode Onirin division, who arrested the suspect.

The victim’s corpse was deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital’s morgue.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.

She said,
“It was a resident that came to report at the station that the man fought with his wife. In the process, the woman stabbed him to death. The police visited and photographed the scene. The suspect was arrested and the corpse deposited in a morgue. The case is still under investigation as we await the result of the autopsy. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the SCIID.”

People gather near the site of a coal mine collapse near Lalmatia in Godda district in eastern Jharkhand state. AFP
At least eight workers were killed and scores more feared trapped on Friday after a massive mound of earth caved in at a coal mine in eastern India.
The collapse buried at least 23 miners and dozens of vehicles under the debris as hundreds of emergency workers battled overnight to rescue the men at the Lalmatia open cast mine in Jharkhand state’s Godda district.
“So far eight dead bodies have been recovered and 15 more remain unaccounted for,”
RK Mallick, Jharkhand police spokesman, told AFP.
Some of the workers had escaped the disaster site following the collapse, the officer said, with  unconfirmed media reports putting the number of trapped at 50.
Local police and emergency staff were using earth movers and sniffer dogs to locate the trapped workers under tons of earth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on Twitter, promising to help the state government in its rescue operations.
“Saddened by the loss of lives at a mine in Jharkhand. My prayers are with those trapped inside,”
he said.

The National Disaster Management Authority dispatched more than 200 rescue workers to the site.
The mine is operated by the government-owned Eastern Coalfields Limited. Its top official, Niladri Roy, told AFP that more than 250 metres (820 feet) of the mine collapsed as workers headed towards the exit around 7:30 pm Thursday.
There was no immediate explanation for the collapse.
In a separate incident on Thursday, four miners were injured at a government-run coal mine in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district.
A mine official said the workers were hit after the roof of the Putki Balihari coal mine partially collapsed. Two of the workers were critically injured.
Jharkhand is one of the richest mineral zones in India, accounting for around 29 percent of the country’s coal deposits. However it is also one of India’s poorest areas and the epicentre of a Maoist insurgency.
India has maintained a relatively safe record in mining-related accidents compared to neighbour China, which on average reports around 1,000 fatalities every year.
In 2015, India recorded 38 deaths across 570 mining sites.
The last major mining accident in India occurred in 1975, when 372 workers were killed following the flooding of Chasnala mine in Dhanbad.

According to Punch-Metro the corpse of a 400-level student of the College of Education,  Osun State University, Ipetu Ijesa campus,  Miss Rofiat Adebisi, who went  missing since last week, has been found in Iragbiji in Osun State.
Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that the corpse was found in Iragbiji last Friday, while the police had started investigation to unravel the cause of the death and those behind it.
Sources said the deceased left her campus in Ipetu Ijesa to attend a religious programme at Ikoyi town, off Ife-Ibadan Expressway in Osun State last Thursday, but was declared missing when nobody could locate her afterwards.
A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said

"everybody in the family, as well as her colleagues, were worried, adding that the discovery of her corpse confirmed their worst fear."
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said the police were working to unravel the cause of the death.
The CP said the deceased was not shot, adding that autopsy would determine the cause of the undergraduate’s death.
He said,
“No arrest has been made, but the police will get to the root of the matter and prosecute whoever is culpable.”
The Vice Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Prof. Labode Popoola, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

The VC said,

“I have been informed of the case, but nobody knows the cause of the death for now. The police are investigating it.”
The Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the South West, Mr. Sheed Afolabi, urged the police to arrest those behind the killing and bring them to justice.

Afolabi said,

“This is another sad incident. I think there is a need to beef up security in the state to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
“The police should unravel those behind the killing and bring them to justice. Two final year students of UNIOSUN have been missing since early September and their whereabouts remain unknown. This is why I believe security agencies should help us by working harder to ensure that the state is safer than it is.”
Meanwhile, the  mother of one of the two final year students of the same university,  who got missing since September 2016,  Mrs. Marian Ogunlana, said she was worried that her son and his friend had not been found after almost four months.
Ogunlana, who is the mother of Samuel Eke, said.
"she had been running everywhere to inquire from prophets and had been attending various church vigils to find her son  and his friend, Robert Akinduro, who went missing together."
Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, Ogunlana said.
"she was told at a church recently that her son and his friend were still alive.
She said,
“It is over three months now that they went away and I have not heard anything from them. Nobody has contacted me to tell me where they are.
“I attended a vigil recently and I was told that they are still alive. But how long will I stay without knowing where my only son is? I am worried.
“There is no trace of them anywhere since that night they went missing. The suspect has been released by the court. It is only God that knows what happened to the two of them that night.”
Members of Akinduro family said they were also worried that Robert, who is a final  year student of Computer Science Department, had not been found since September 5.
Robert’s brother, Henry, said,
“We believe God will take over the situation and we will see my brother and his friend one day. Nobody has contacted the family for now.”

A suspected member of a militant group allegedly planning to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, has been arrested by the police in Majidun, Ikorodu area of the state.
The suspect, Abiodun Amos, aka Senti, was said to be a bomb expert, who had participated in several robbery attacks and kidnappings in Lagos and Ogun states.
PUNCH Metro learnt that two Ak-47 rifles concealed in a bag and a vehicle loaded with dynamite and detonators were recovered from the suspect’s hideouts around the creeks in Majidun.
It was gathered that Amos’ arrest followed an intelligence report received by the office of the National Security Adviser to the President.
The report was said to have been passed onto the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who directed the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, led by ACP Abba Kyari, to go after the group.
A police source disclosed to our correspondent that Amos was a top commander of a militant group, which had been terrorizing communities in Lagos and Ogun states.
The source said,

“The suspect is a member of a militant group operating from the creeks of Ikorodu and Arepo areas of Lagos and Ogun states. The police got an intelligence report from the office of the NSA that Amos and his gang members wanted to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge.
“The group was trailed to a river bank in the Majidun area, where the suspect, an expert in explosive, was arrested. Two Ak-47 rifles hidden in a Ghana-Must-Go bag were found in his possession and he led operatives to a vehicle parked discreetly within Ikorodu, and a large cache of dynamite and detonators were recovered from its boot.”
PUNCH Metro learnt from another source that some members of the gang earlier arrested gave detectives information that led to Amos’ arrest, adding that the police were on the trail of other members of the gang.
“After receiving the report, the IG directed the IRT operatives to commence a full-scale investigation and it was discovered that the group actually planned to blow up the bridge at the end of November 2016. The suspect, who coordinated the plan, was arrested before the scheduled date,”
the source added. In his confessional statement, Amos, who hails from Arugbo in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, reportedly told the police that his gang was frustrated by the military operations against pipeline vandals.
The 43-year-old man said his gang went into kidnapping after the bombardment of the creeks, adding that the botched attack on the bridge was initiated by the overall kingpin identified as General Ossy.
“We went into bank robberies and kidnapping because we wanted to get government’s attention and all we wanted was for them to grant us amnesty and offer us pipeline protection contract. We have made several appeals, but the government is not listening to us.
General Ossy said if we didn’t blow up the Third Mainland Bridge, government would not listen to us. We had concluded plans and we decided to carry out the attack by November ending. I am the group’s explosive expert.  We were about going into the creek to conclude plans on how to carry out the attack when I was arrested.”
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah, confirmed the arrest and seizure of the explosives, saying investigation was ongoing.
He said,.
“An arrest was made of an individual. While the police operatives were pursuing another one in a vehicle, he abandoned the vehicle and ran but he was tracked down. Some explosives were discovered in the vehicle and two Ak-47 guns were recovered from him.”

The governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has said that under his leadership, Ndi Anambra would not feel the negative effects of the economic recession being experienced by the country presently.
The governor stated this at his country home, Aguleri in Anambra east council area of the state during an event to mark Christmas Eve with the family.
The ceremony, in celebration of God's grace and mercy on the first family, was also used by the Governor to meet and fraternize with key stakeholders in the state as prelude to Christmas.
The stakeholders who included former Vice-president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke and his wife, Oby; former Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, Senators Annie Okonkwo and Emma Anosike, the National Chairman of APGA, Ozo Victor Oye, former Minister-Mrs Josephine Anenih among others.

It was indeed a fun-filled evening as guests were thrilled with sonorous Christmas carols by a Choir led by an Associate Professor of Music, Dr Ngozi Okonkwo and performances by comedians like Sacramento and Mc Parrotmouth.
The Governor said Ndi Anambra will not experience the present economic recession because of the relevant steps his government has been taking to keep the state's economy viable.
These, he noted include prompt payment of workers' salaries, leave allowances, sustenance of seasonal largesse, introduction of economic palliatives, the N20 million per community choose-your-project initiative, among others. All these he noted were aimed at pumping money into the system as required for any economy to reverse recession.
The governor who revealed that his government is working to bring the state to a level where it can conveniently meet its statutory responsibilities without depending on the Federal allocation, assured that he would continue to avail Ndi Anambra servant leadership with their support.
In his remarks, the former Presidential Adviser, Senator Ndi Obi who is the National Secretary of the People's Democratic Party(PDP)Caretaker Leadership, acknowledged that Gov Obiano has operated a system of governance that extends handshake to stakeholders across party lines and said his decision to support him is to guarantee the realization of his laudable vision for the state development.
In their respective remarks, a renowned industrialist, Chief Patrick Chidolue and a construction expert, Chief Benneth Emeka said Anambra has every reason to celebrate the yuletide in grand style in view of the visible transformation that it is experiencing, noting that Gov Obiano has proved himself a strong and reasonable leader.
Other persons who spoke at the event including the Chairman of the State Signage Agency, ANSA, Chief Jude Emechetta and Chief Okey Nwankwo described Christmas as a season of love and said the first family is exemplifying good christian attributes of love and magnanimity through the event.

Ultimate Cycler is another Ponzi scheme, which Nigerians invest in. Started by an American, Peter Wolfing, it seems like the only other alternative following the crash of the popular MMM scheme in December 2016.

Ultimate Cycler
What though do you need to know about Ultimate Cycler before putting in your money?

1. It has crashed before

One of the first facts it is important to note is that, it has crashed twice before. Initially launched in between 2012 and 2013 under the name Turbo Cycler by Peter Wolfing it crashed and people lost money, and then it was resurrected again as Ultimate Cycler.

In 2016, it crashed once again in Nigeria and left many wondering what would happen to their money. The website is back up, yet many still await their money.

2. Peter Wolfing

The Ultimate Cycler founder, Peter Wolfing is known by the name “The Online Tool Guy." This is because he works majorly with producing tools for internet marketers and leads.

He has launched other schemes:

- Turbo Cycler

- Business Toolbox

- Infinity 100

- National Wealth Center

- Pay Me Forward

- Easy 1Up

3. How it works

It’s a 2×2 cycler with a direct member-to-member compensation plan that allows for 100% instant payout on commissions.

There are 7 matrix levels to earn from, but your out-of-pocket expense is only a 1-time $25. It all starts with a 1-time $25 to get into your first matrix.

Depending on how you choose to build, this may be the only payment you will ever have to make, everything else can come out of profit. This 1-time $25 payment gets you access to the back office, all the products, the marketing system, etc, etc.

Your matrix has 2 levels consisting of 6 spots (2 on the 1st level, 4 on the second). Your second level is your payline.

So when a slot is filled on your second level, either by your efforts or someone else’s, you earn 100% of those commissions…or in this case $25.

So each $25 matrix pays out $100 ($25 X 4). When all 6 spots are filled, you cycle out and have the option to activate another matrix and get paid all over again.

4. Risks

Like every other Ponzi scheme, existing investors with funds collected from new investors. Ponzi scheme organizers often promise to invest your money and generate high returns with little or no risk.

But in many Ponzi schemes, the fraudsters do not invest the money. Instead, they use it to pay those who invested earlier and may keep some for themselves.

With little or no legitimate earnings, Ponzi schemes require a constant flow of new money to survive.

When it becomes hard to recruit new investors, or when large numbers of existing investors cash out, these schemes tend to collapse. This is a very risky scheme.
5. Reviews

There have been several reviews of the Ultimate Cycler, and here are some of them:

This is from popular online marketer, Vince: "If this is the first time you’ve heard of the Ultimate Cycler, I suggest you turn around and walk as far away from this as possible.

"Cyclers are nothing but big scams and none of them thrive (maybe they just changed their name a bit and re-launched). Think about any cycler that you’ve heard about last year, is it still up and running today?"

Solid Wealth Systems has this to say: "Ultimate Cycler is, at its core, a simple program built for the masses. It’s very easy to get started, very easy to get into profit quickly, and has the leadership behind it to go the distance."

A work-at-home website says: "I think cyclers are the biggest scams out there and the owner is the only one that wins. This review is going to do nothing but bash this program because I think I have lost enough money trying t0 “cycle” with these wannabe online marketing businesses."

Below is a video of how Ultimate Cycler works:

Hip hop artiste has said he was not robbed at the Calabar Christmas Village, Cross River State, contrary to a news report on Tuesday.
Reacting to a question,
"I heard you were attacked and robbed last night in calabar?? How true is that??’ by a fan, @tommykingsblog, on his Twitter page, Kiss Daniel, whose real name is Daniel Anidugbe,
     responded ‘I wasn’t robbed"
A report titled ‘Robbers attack Calabar Christmas Village, rob Kiss Daniel’ in Punch newspaper on Tuesday had said armed robbers stormed the Christmas Village while Kiss Daniel was performing.
However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said it was not a robbery attack, but a misunderstanding between the organizers while the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the state governor, Mr. Christian Ita, said
“the report is replete with factual inaccuracies and outright lies invented by the author of the said report.”

Wizkid
Three years after pulling out of Banky W’s EME Records, Wizkid’s career has steadily been on the rise and the year under review has been an excellent one for him.
The singer’s winning streak started with the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards in South Africa, where he emerged winner in the Artiste of the Year, Best Male Act and Best Collaboration out of Africa categories, respectively.
Then on November 6 he was named Best African Act and Worldwide Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Interestingly on the same night, the talented singer emerged as Artiste of Year at the All Africa Music Awards held in Lagos.
In addition to winning  the Best African Act award at the 2016 MOBO awards in London, Wizkid  received his first-ever Grammy Awards nomination for featuring in American pop star, Drake’s hit song titled ‘One Dance’.
Only a few weeks ago, he was named Artist of the Year at the Headies Awards. The singer, who has been described as one of Africa’s best artists, also collaborated with the likes of Chris Brown , Trey Songz, French Montana, Justine Skye, DJ Maphorisa and few others. The year under review, no doubt, has been quite rewarding for him.

Falz the Bad Guy
Trained as lawyer, Falz the Bad Guy (real name is Folarin Falana) has also had an exciting and rewarding year as an artiste. He emerged the winner in the Viewer’s Choice Best New International Act category at the  2016 BET Awards in the United States of America. Also, the rapper won two trophies, namely the Best Afro Hiphop Video and Best Music Video, with ‘Karashika’ at the 9th Nigeria Music Video Awards, among other laurels.

Yemi Alade
Hardworking and sensational singer, Yemi Alade, proved to her critics that her achievement at last year’s edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards was not flash in the pan when she repeated the feat in 2016 in South Africa.
The singer, who came into the limelight after worming into the hearts of music fans in the continent with her 2013 single titled ‘Johnny’, was named Best Female Act for the second time running. She beat fellow Nigerian act, Tiwa Savage, Josey of Ivory Coast, Mz Vee of Ghana and Tanzanian singer, Vanessa Mdee to win the award.

Kiss Daniel
Two years after he debuted with the hit single, Woju, Kiss Daniel (real name Daniel Anidugbe) finally made it to the music hall of fame by winning three laurels at the 2016 Headies Awards.
The artiste has been described as the biggest winner of the night at the event, clinching the Best R&B/Pop Album, Hip Hop World Revelation and Album of the Year awards, with his 20-track New Era album, which had other hit songs, such as Mama, Jombo.

A hit-and-run driver has crushed two women in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that while one of the victims died on the spot, the other was still in a critical condition at a hospital in the state.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened on Monday around the NNPC bus stop.
A witness said two victims were hit by a silver Toyota Camry with number plate, BDG 45 DZ, adding that the car driver attempted to overtake another vehicle when the accident occurred.
He said,

“The accident happened around 11am.  The Camry was at top speed because it wanted to overtake another vehicle.
“However, the driver lost control and ran over the two ladies who were passing by the roadside just after the NNPC Filling Station.
“One of the ladies died immediately, while the second woman, who sustained a fracture in the arm and had a head injury was treated by some emergency workers before she was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
“The corpse of the deceased was conveyed by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to a mortuary.”
Our correspondent gathered that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, led by their General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, and some policemen from the Olosan division, responded to the situation.
The area was said to have been cordoned off as the accident caused traffic congestion on the road.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the driver was later arrested by the police, while the car was towed away to the station.
“The families of the victims have come forward to identify them. It was really sad,” the witness, who did not want to be identified, said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the second victim was still receiving treatment.
She said,
“One died on the spot, while the other is on danger list in the hospital. Investigations are ongoing.”

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Suleiman Seidu.

Seidu, 33, who had allegedly kidnapped two residents of Kogi State for ransom, was said to be plotting the kidnap of a two-year-old when he was apprehended.

PUNCH Metro reports that the suspect had contracted two of his friends to assist in the operation,
when the police got wind of the plan.

He was said to have been arrested in the Owode area of Ogun State on Friday.

A police source said a member of the RRS decoy team had infiltrated the kidnap gang.

He said,
“We got a hint about the kidnap from one of the two persons that the prime suspect contracted. The man was not okay with the idea, so he came to tell us.
“A female member of the RRS decoy team joined the gang. She was given the job of taking care of members and the child after his abduction. For more than two weeks while the operation took shape, the investigator, pretending as an accomplice, got information from the prime suspect.
“The suspect told our mole that he had a motorcycle to aid him in the abduction of the boy, adding that the ransom would be N10m. He said the boy’s father was a landlord and a dealer in electrical appliances.”
After getting the nod of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilayasu, the RRS team was said to have swooped on the suspect in his Ogun home and apprehended him.

The Kogi State indigene, upon his arrest confessed to the crime, saying he needed the money to treat his ailing mother.

He said,

“I had been monitoring the boy for two weeks. I observed that whenever the driver was taking him to school; he would first alight from the car to lock the gate because they didn’t have a gatekeeper in their house. Also, he takes him to school between 7am and 8am.
“What I planned was to kidnap the boy when the driver alighted from the car to close the gate and escape on a waiting motorcycle.
“I live in a room and parlour apartment, and I planned to keep him with me till his parents pay the ransom.
“I planned to demand N10m, but if his parents could not afford the whole money, I would have accepted N3m at the end of the day.
“I conceived the idea to kidnap him when I was left with no option because my mother is very ill at the moment.
“I just relocated to the area and didn’t know the nook and cranny very well. I thought of getting someone who knew the environment well to make the job easier for me.”
The father of the child, Udwu, who had no inkling of the looming danger, thanked the police for the proactive action.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of investigation.

“The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigation,” she added.
