Muhammadu Buhari, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, GCFR, died last week or so it was bandied. Buhari was either dead or on a life support device somewhere in a German or United Kingdom hospital but certainly not alive, they publicised jubilantly. Everybody else who amplified the spooky story quoted an ‘online publication.’ What the originators of the story have not been able to do is to show us Buhari’s grave or tell us the date, location and time of his funeral. Apparently, the President is still walking the earth and not below it yet.

Analysts have already fingered the African Independent Television (AIT) in the origination and circulation of this tasteless rumour. Everyone knows that there has been no love lost between the television station and Buhari. Ahead of his inauguration in May, 2015, his handlers had sought to bar the station from covering the President-elect’s activities. Later, the Buhari government would arraign Chief Alegho Raymond Dokpesi, the proprietor of the television station, at the High Court for his alleged role in the mismanagement of funds meant to purchase arms to fight Boko Haram, better known as Dasukigate, during the Goodluck Jonathan administration. The media mogul and politician has himself been caught in one controversy after another and has practically put his broadcasting stations at the service of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to which he belongs.

However, the management of Daar Communications has vehemently denied being the source of the rumour of President Buhari’s death. They said they were not the owners of ‘the FACEBOOK Account purportedly being operated by our organisation, adding “it is falsehood dressed in truth that we opened such FACEBOOK Account. They maintained that “the FACEBOOK Account was the brain child of some faceless and mischievous group that should be investigated by security agencies. We did not publish nor know anything about the report. …..We also disown the so called FACEBOOK Account and have officially reported to FACEBOOK Managers.”

The President is gone to London just a little over a week ago and wailers are happy purveyors of the satanic rumour that Buhari is dead, but is he? Was Buhari even supposed to be elected in 2014 or live this long? Was he not said to be brain dead long before now? Was it not said that he had cancer and was on the verge of death? Buhari’s adversaries never gave him a chance and it is not surprising that they still don’t wish him well.

On its part, the Presidency has strenuously worked to dispel the rumour of the death of Buhari by releasing series of photographs. Earlier, they had released a photo of the President talking to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo via a mobile phone. The President was shown seated on sofa in a living room in a house in London with his feet placed on the centre table as he watched one of his favourite stations, the Channels Television. Unsurprisingly, the rumour became even more heightened with skeptics claiming that the picture was doctored. Thereafter, the Presidency circulated another picture showing President Buhari seated on a sofa alongside Senator Daisy Danjuma, in the same house in London as he chatted with her, Governor Ibikunle Amosun and another guest. The last of the series of pictures released by the Presidency was that of ‘dead’ Buhari and his wife Aisha.

Mercifully, President Buhari doesn’t owe the wailers anything: he is entitled to take a rest; it is within his rights to see his doctors while looking after his health; he has communicated his absence to the Senate and House of Representatives in line with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution (as amended); he has relinquished presidential powers to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who is already actingin his absence, what else do they want from Buhari?

Some busy bodies have made the puerile demands that the President addresses the country to ‘prove’ that he is alive. Journalists had asked Buhari about the same matter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when he was leaving the country and he answered them accordingly: “What is wrong with going on vacation? Didn’t I go last year...…?

The fictionalisation of Buhari’s death indicates how much he is hated by his adversaries; they want nothing but the utter failure of this government, but preferably his demise. It is the reason why those who claim to love President Buhari should re-examine their conduct and ask themselves what is it that they have contributed to the success or otherwise of his government.

Upon his return, President Buhari must re-invigorate his government. President Buhari should take steps to inject urgency and strong purpose in his administration. He has to succeed, he has to disgorge the loot from those who helped themselves from the treasury before they use it to rubbish him and the country, he must enhance security, he must ensure stable electricity supply; more importantly, he must redeem the North. If Buhari’s government fails (God forbid), our hope for further claim on the leadership of this country will have been dashed.

In the meantime, I know President Muhammadu Buhari is alive or he has resurrected. I maintain my confidence in him and his government; I believe that he means well for Nigeria and God will give him the sufficient health to improve the quality of life of our citizens. I admit that we are in difficulties at the moment, however, I remain hopeful that we will overcome and our country has a bright future. I am not anxious about President Buhari’s health at all and I trust that come February 6, he will resume work hale and hearty, notwithstanding the ill will of his adversaries. God bless Nigeria.

The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States. This order was approved as to form and legality by the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel.

Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.
It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country.
Tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties and subsequently named Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to serve as Acting Attorney General until Senator Jeff Sessions is finally confirmed by the Senate, where he is being wrongly held up by Democrat senators for strictly political reasons.

“I am honored to serve President Trump in this role until Senator Sessions is confirmed. I will defend and enforce the laws of our country to ensure that our people and our nation are protected,”
said Dana Boente, Acting Attorney General.

FORMER Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, is now the leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southeast, while the party in the zone would support President Mohammadu Buhari for a second term in office should he seek re-election in 2019.

These were parts of decisions taken at the meeting of Southeast APC stakeholders held at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC), Owerri, yesterday.

The meeting had dignitaries like Sen. Nnamani, Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Araraume, George Moughalu, Tony Eze, Ebuka Onunkwo, Jombo Offor, Eze Madumere and members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) in attendance.

In his speech, the host Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, said he left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to join the APC at its formative stage because APGA was seen as an Igbo party and not a national party. He stated that he joined APC against all odds because he knew that Igbos would achieve their political aspirations within Nigeria only through a national party.

He said:

“Now that Igbo leaders are together in APC, Nigerians will hear us. There is a vacuum of leadership in the Southeast APC. I am a governor. My brothers Chris Ngige and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu are ministers. Hence, the importance of Ken Nnamani coming at this time. I decline leadership of Ndigbo in APC. With Nnamani, the question of who is the leader of APC in the Southeast has been answered. Nnamani is the leader of APC in the South-East.”

He continued: “Senator Nnamani should then work with other leaders like Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Jim Nwobodo and a host of others to give Ndigbo political direction. Those who have joined the party or who want to join should do so to build the party and not to cause confusion. APC is the right party for the Igbos, and the only party that can guarantee Igbo presidency.”

For him,
“we are going to support President Mohammadu Buhari for the eight years he is going to lead the nation. This is the time for Ndigbo to come and work together. We are also going to use the Anambra election to show that APC has arrived in the Southeast. The Igbos played bad Politics in 2015. Today we have lost a lot. We are not anywhere because of our bad politics.”

Okorocha also disclosed that three serving governors in the Southeast were in touch with him and would soon join APC, adding that being the only APC governor in the Southeast does not give him joy. He advised that other political leaders in the geo-political zone should take advantage of the moment and come into APC.
Image may contain: 1 person, standing and indoor
Nnamani, in his speech, said the Igbos needed more of their leaders at the national leadership of the APC where decisions are being made, and even at the National Assembly and other strategic areas.

The former Senate President said:
“Some of us going into APC are not doing so because of hunger, but in the interest of the Igbos. We should play politics of ideas and avoid abusive words. Ndigbo do not have the ingredients for opposition politics. We do not have the media or business or money to play opposition politics, but we won’t ask for handouts.”
Image may contain: 13 people, people sitting and crowd
He continued:
“How the Yorubas voted in 2015 should be an eye-opener. They voted both sides, but the Southeast put their eggs in one basket. I am not of the view that everybody should be in APC, but those who have seen the need should do so. If Gov. Okorocha has realised that he needs more hands in APC, he should be commended. We are the worst enemies of ourselves. If we work together we will go very far. This is the time to play national politics”.

Nnamani further explained that “some people could say we have the Deputy Senate President, but he does not attend the meeting of APC caucus where important decisions are taken. We must think ahead.

The benefit of that office is therefore personal and does not enhance the political fortunes of the Southeast people.”

Few hours back, rapper, Yung6ix, caused a stir on social media with his views on rap music in Nigeria. He wrote:

‘When I wanna listen to African rap I play Yung6ix and SA rappers wtf is going on with the Nigerian Rappers ? Wake up’.

In that same spirit, LIB, reached out to a few rappers in the country, to share their thoughts on the state of rap in Nigeria and rapper Terry Tha Rapman, nothing only have so much to say also shares same sentiments with Yung6ix.

In his words:

‘I kinda get where he’s coming from. I’ve been stressing this for long, when I said ‘rap is dead’ in Nigeria I didn’t mean nobody is rapping. I meant we (being the fans, media and promoters) stopped supporting rap music as it should be at a point‘.

He continued:

‘Now would you blame rappers for fine tuning their style? Rappers hardly get the airplay/support as our pop counterparts so after years we started adapting. I still believe there’s hope. We are far from the days of Trybesmen, 2shotz, Ruggedman, Modenine and when MI dropped Talk About It and MI2. We need more rap concerts to promote hip-hop culture. The few ones I’ve been to were not encouraging’.

So guys, what do you think, is rap really dead in Nigeria?

Neutralizing the intense athleticism of her smaller opponent, the ruthless Nia kept The Boss on the defensive for much of the bout, targeting her injured left knee and tossing Banks around the ring like a ragdoll.

Despite Sasha’s multiple attempts to mount an offensive comeback, Nia ultimately scored a pinfall after dazing The Boss with a vicious Samoan drop.

According to PREMIUM TIMES The Presidency has posted a photo purporting to show President Muhammadu Buhari in London, amid speculations about his health. The president travelled to the United Kingdom last week on a 10-day holiday. But there have been reports about his health, with some claiming he was either dead or under intensive care. The presidency has denied the reports, saying the president is neither ill nor admitted in any hospital in London as being speculated.
Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said on Thursday Mr. Buhari would not be compelled to speak amid the “rumour”.

“The president is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill.“If anybody has fed something else into the rumour mill that is just what it is – rumour,”

he said

“The fact that he is a president, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and talk will be infringing on his rights. The president will talk if he wishes to, and if he doesn’t wish to, nobody will compel him to talk.”

The Presidency on Thursday insisted that despite the rumour doing the rounds on President Muhammadu Buhari’s state of health, the President is not ill.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who said this in an interview with CNBC Africa, which was monitored in Abuja, said Buhari could not be compelled to speak from the United Kingdom.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, however, said the President should speak to Nigerians from the UK.

Adesina insisted that Buhari was only in London, UK, for vacation and was not in any hospital.

He said, “The President is in London on vacation. He is not in any hospital and he is not ill.

“When he was travelling last week, the statement we put out was that he was going on vacation and during the vacation, he would do routine check-up and nothing has changed from what we pushed out last week.

“If anybody has fed something else into the rumour mill, that is just what it is – rumour.”

When asked if Buhari would be willing to talk to Nigerians from the UK, Adesina said the decision could only be taken by the President himself.

The presidential aide said any attempt to compel Buhari to do so would amount to infringement on his rights.

“The fact that he is a President, he still has his rights. Compelling him to come out and talk will be infringing on his rights. The President will talk if he wishes to. If he doesn’t wish to, nobody will compel him to talk.

“The truth is that the President is on vacation and he has given a date on which he will return to work,’’ Adesina said.

Also on Thursday, the Federal Government debunked the rumour doing the rounds that governors met in Abuja on Thursday and deliberated on the health of Buhari.

It said the report was false. It also added that the governors were also not planning to send representatives to London to see the President.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this when he received members of the Presidential Initiative Committee on the North-East, who visited him in Abuja.

Mohammed said there was no need for the alleged visit, stating that the President was merely observing his leave as stated in the letter sent to the Senate before leaving the country.

He called on Nigerians to stop wishing their leaders sickness and death, saying there was nothing wrong with the President.

The minister added, “I would like to use this medium to refute the claim in some quarters that governors would meet in Abuja today (Thursday) and have discussion over the health of the President.

“Those peddling the rumour also claimed that the governors would send emissaries to the President in London.

“The report is false because the governors are not going to meet and will not send any emissary anywhere because the President is hale and hearty.”

Mohammed appealed to Nigerians to stop preaching what he described as hate and also stop wishing their leaders bad things.

He also urged those behind the rumour to stop it forthwith.

NLC asks Buhari to speak to Nigerians

Meanwhile, the NLC has called on the President to speak to Nigerians.

The NLC argued that it would be proper for the President to make a public appearance to dispel rumours in the country about his health.

The General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, told one of our correspondents on Thursday that the President should speak to Nigerians since Nigerians were worried about his health.

He said the President should call the bluff of those peddling orchestrated rumours by publicly addressing the citizenry.

Ozo-Eson said, “In the social media, stories circulate without confirmation; I think that the easiest way is to talk publicly to the nation because the citizens are concerned about their leaders’ whereabouts.

‘If there are those who orchestrated rumours and they are not true, the easiest way is for him to reach out to Nigerians through a public appearance and a statement.

“Nigerians have a right to be certain about the health situation of their President and the people who orchestrate rumours and unsubstantiated reports, one would wish for him to call their bluff by publicly addressing the citizens.”

But the TUC said it would not be necessary for the President to address Nigerians since he had not been away for long.

The President of the TUC, Mr. Bala Kaigama, stated that Buhari demanded a rest and handed over government to the Vice-President.

According to him, Nigerians can talk about the President’s health if he fails to return after the 10-day period of rest he requested.

He said, “Why do we have to make noise about this? He is coming back; if he were to go and stay for a very long time, it is a different thing. If we have patience, he will come back. We are just being unnecessarily demanding.

“This is somebody who demanded a rest and he has handed over the government to the Vice-President. So our concern is how the VP is handling it; but it his health that has become the issue of the moment.

“But we should allow the old man to have his rest. It is normal for somebody of that age to need rest from time to time. If he goes to rest that does not mean that government will not work now. Let the old man enjoy his rest.

“If he does not come back on the day he is supposed to come, that is when can talk, but for now, let’s allow him to have his rest, why does he have to come and address us? It doesn’t make any sense.”

The Executive Secretary, Anti-corruption Network, Ebenezer Oyetakin, faulted the call for Buhari to address the nation from the UK, describing it as mischief.

He said, “I do not subscribe to that. It smacks of mischief from such people. We are Africans. We have cultural discipline on some issues. “He has done the appropriate thing by handing over to the VP as Acting President. Let us be patient and maintain a sense of decorum and respect to the institution of governance.’’

According to Apeh Peterhot, Makurdi in his statement he said "This is certainly not a good time for the Governor of Benue state, Chief Dr. Samuel Ortom, as his Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. James Anbua, is presently under police investigation for duping a Benue farmer, Dr. Felix Apeh Lawani, of a total sum of N12 million for sales of fertilizers.

According to copies of the police reports(attached to this story) which were obtained by New-Nigeria Reporters this morning, the suspect (Hon. Anbua), the Director of Finance of the ministry, Mrs. Christiana Mhambe, and one Mr. Samson Abeh who is an official of the ministry had used the bank account of the Ministry to dupe the victim, Mr. Lawani

Copies of the police reports gave the account details which the victim paid the 12 million Naira to as Benue State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Union Bank PLC, 0035386205

In the police reports, Mr. Felix Lawani stated that sometime in late May 2016, an acquaintance, Mr. Solomon Ogidi, of number 566 Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi, Benue State, informed him (Lawani) of the sale of fertilizers at subsidised rates by Benue State Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to encourage massive agricultural production in the State.
According to Lawani who said he immediately showed his interest in the sales, Mr. Solomon Ogidi introduced him to Mr. Samson Abeh of Benue State Ministry of Agriculture to secure the allocation of fertilizers through registered Cooperative Societies.
Lawani, in the police report, continued that Mr. Abeh told him that he (Lawani) would be issued three thousand (3000) bags of fertilizers at the cost of twelve million (N12,000,000.00) Naira only, through two registered cooperative societies.

No automatic alt text available.
The victim continued that Samson Abeh informed him that the transaction was predicated on payment of the sum of N12,000,000.00 only, each in the names of the two Cooperative Societies to be introduced or named by him (Lawani) to the account of the Benue State’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, given as: MINISTRY of AGRICULTURE and NATURAL RESOURCES, UNION BANK PLC., WITH ACCOUNT NUMBER 0035386205.
After confirming from officials at the Union Bank PLC that the given account was genuine and operational, Lawani said he immediately remitted two separate sums of N6,000,000.00 each from his personal Savings account number 0020788938 at Union Bank PLC., Ogiri Oko Street, Makurdi, Benue State in respect and on behalf of AGRIBIZ MULTI-PURPOSE SOCIETY and OCHECHEMA FARMERS COOPERATIVE, respectively to the account of the Benue State’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources as given above.

After the payment, on the same day, Lawani said he was issued two official receipts of the Ministry (Receipts Numbers 15887 and 15888) to this effect through Mr. Samson Abeh with a promise of the availability of the fertilizers on or before two weeks, from the date of issuance of receipts.

Further investigation by NEW-NIGERIA REPORTERS revealed that following elapse of the stated period of the supposed supply of the fertilizers paid for, the victim (Lawani) entreated Mr. Samson Abeh and Mr. Solomon Ogidi for explanations but however got some “very spurious, inconsistent explanation” which he claimed had portrayed falsehood.

In the course of his efforts in this regard, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. James Anbua, granted Dr. Lawani an audience on Thursday 29th December, 2016 in respect of this transaction, and in the course of the meeting, the victim was made to understand that his complaints arose from a scam being perpetuated by officials of the Ministry with no official knowledge or backing whatsoever by his office.

But both the Director of Finance, Christiana Mhambe, and Mr. Samson Abeh have insisted that Hon. James Anbua was the one that ordered this suspected fraudulent transactions.

On June 3rd 2016, Dr. Lawani made two cash deposits of N6 Million each (N12 Million in total) to the Benue State Ministry of Agriculture through its Union Bank account number 0025386205 with regard this transactions.

It was gathered that on June 7, 2016, Mrs. Chieryol Susan, a cashier at the Ministry was ordered by her Director of Finance at the Ministry, Mrs. Christiana Mhambe, to issue a cheque of the same (N12 million) to Mr. Samson Mhambe who fronted the deal on their behalf.

According to a statement made to the Police by Mrs. Chieryol Susan (The ministry’s Cashier) on October 14, 2016, the Director of Finance, Mrs. Christiana Mhambe, told her that there was a N12 Million in the Ministry’s Salaries and Overhead Account sent to Mr. Samson Abeh from overseas privately for a different purpose.

It was also learnt that Mrs. Chieryol Susan complied with the directive and issued a cheque of N6 million to Mr. Samson Abeh in the afternoon of June 7, 2016 and another check of the second part of the cash later that same day.

Mr. Samson Abeh on getting to Union Bank, Makurdi to cash the two cheques discovered that the bank would go for investigation since he was not a signatory to the account at the time, and to avoid any fallout of the deal, he quickly returned the cheque to the Ministry’s Director of Finance, Mrs. Christiana Mhambe, who quickly ordered the Ministry’s Cashier, Chieryol Susan, to replace Samson’s name with hers and ensure she got the cash for Mr. Samson.

Again, Chieryol Susan complied and the transaction became successful, and the two withdrawals of N6 million each took place same day.

In Chieryol Susan’s statement, Mr. Samson Abeh who called her from classroom as she was rewriting her WAEC at NKST Secondary School, Aliade that same day, ended up given her just about three thousand Naira (N3,000.00) only from the huge money (N12 million) he (Abeh Samson) obtained through her help

Confirming the transactions during our investigations, Mr. Igbinehi Efosa of Union Bank PLC, Makurdi, said: “The two transactions took place between 12:30pm and 4:30pm before the Bank’s official closing hour of 4:30pm same day”

In a short telephone interview with NEW-NIGERIA REPORTERS, Dr. Felix Lawani confirmed the incident, saying that he had left the matter to the police and the Court to handle.

Amosun
Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London.

The President had on Thursday, January 19, 2017, left the country for London, United Kingdom, for what the Presidency described as “a short leave.”

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the President would undergo “routine medical check-ups” during the vacation.

He is expected to resume work on February 6, 2017.

However, an online report had recently claimed that the President was sick and had died in a London hospital where he was receiving medical attention. But the Presidency last Saturday said there was no truth in the report, stating that the President was alive.

This has led to several calls being made by Nigerians that the President should address the citizens from the UK to be assured of his fitness. The Nigeria Labour Congress had also intensified Nigerians’ calls that the President should speak to the citizens from the UK.

But the Presidency had insisted that Buhari could not be compelled to speak.

Subsequently, in a bid to assure Nigerians that the President was hale and hearty, his Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, on Friday evening tweeted a photo of Amosun meeting with the President.

“Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State visited President Buhari this evening in London,” he tweeted.

The photo was originally tweeted by the United Kingdom’s branch of the All Progressives Congress and was retweeted by the spokesperson for the President on Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu.

The photo also showed two other guests with the President.

As the woman tried to escape, she was stopped by the congregation. At some point they began to rebuke her and started chanting in unison, calling down the fire of the holy ghost to burn her. The height of it all was when a church member threw a stone at her when she tried to escape.
