We want Biafra because Nigeria is not functioning and can never function- IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu says

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, says the demand for the secession of the South East from Nigeria is because the nation seems not to be functioning and can never function. Kanu said this in an interview with Al-Jazeerah ,to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Biafran war yesterday May 30th.
Speaking in the living room at his Father's house in Umuahia, Abia state, Kanu said Nothing seems to be working in Nigeria. There is pain and hardship everywhere. What we're fighting [for] is not self-determination for the sake of it. It's because Nigeria is not functioning and can never function." "
Kanu who was granted bail last month, says he doesn't care if he is flouting one of the terms for his bail which prohibits him from granting media interviews.

"I don't care. I can't go outside to call for a press conference. I can't go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can't allow large [groups of] people to basically congregate outside to see me … it's like asking me not to breathe," he said

Kanu decried the perceived marginalization of the Ibos in Nigeria, saying that they have been prevented from aspiring to assume important positions in the country such as President, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff amongst others

"I'm not allowed to contest for the presidency of Nigeria because I'm Igbo. I'm not allowed to aspire to become the inspector general of police because I'm Igbo. I'm not allowed to become chief of army staff because I'm Igbo. What sort of stupid country is that? Why would any idiot want me to be in that sort of country?" he said.

3-week-old girl gets bitten to death after being left alone with the family's three pit bulls

Dogs are known as man's best friend but sometimes things go horribly wrong. A 3-week-old Michigan baby died after one of her family's dogs bit her on the head when she was left unattended with them on Thursday.

Susannah Jean Murray was alone in a bouncy for five minutes inside her Michigan home with three pit bulls serving as her only companions.When after five minutes of being alone, a caretaker checked on her, the woman noticed the infant bleeding from a severe head injury and also saw that one of the dogs had blood around its mouth.

Baby Murray was taken to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital where she underwent nearly seven hours of surgery but she did not make it. She died around 2 a.m. the following morning.

Sgt. Terry Dixon with the GRPD when speaking of the attack said the dog who attacked the child is about 2 years old and has now been quarantined along with the two other family dogs at the Kent County Animal Shelter.

"This is a horrible tragedy, and it serves as a critical reminder to never leave a child unattended around a dog, or dogs, or pets," said Sgt. Terry Dixon. "Always keep a watchful eye on our vulnerable youth."

He continued: "Just the breed of a pit bull by itself is not enough to condemn it, any dog can bite something, they have teeth. I would say that this serves as a definite reminder not to leave children alone with dogs in the house."

Neighbors resident in the Grand Rapids neighborhood told the Detroit Free Press that the dogs were a dangerous nuisance, calling them “mean and vicious" and said they were always wary of them.

“I’d be scared, because when the dogs get out the fence, they used to chase us,” Hawa Abdi, a neighbor, said.

The GRPD and Child Protective Services are investigating. Dixon says they will give their investigation to the Kent County Prosecutor to review and consider any possible criminal charges.

A group of women residing in Lagos, have petitioned the state house of Assembly over the continued harassment faced by women in the state from male traders at most Lagos markets, particularly Balogun and Tejuosho market. The petition was submitted yesterday May 30th. Part of the petition reads:

"We regret to say the harassment being meted out to women at these markets had been a thing of concern both in the past and present times. There continues to be reports from women about how men from the market scene harass women who go shopping in these markets. These experiences leave a bad taste in the psyche of the victims. It makes shopping in Lagos market unpleasant and unsafe for women.

Women find it so much embarrassing to find men(traders) attempting to or holding their waists, attempting to touch their breast whistling or speaking obscenities at them".

President Buhari to bequeath a better future to Nigerian youths- Femi Adesina

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says President Buhari would bequeath a better future to Nigerian youths when he eventually leaves office. Adesina said this after receiving a Golden Leadership Award from the National Youths Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative in Abuja yesterday. Speaking after receiving the award, Adesina said;

"One of the reasons President Buhari repeatedly contested for the position of the President of Nigeria was to see the country properly take care of young people. He strongly believes there should be a better country for the future generation. Tell your colleagues to team up with a government that envisages a better future for this country because Nigerians deserve a better future and that is what the President is aspiring to bequeath’’

Shocking Story: Ugandan Woman Claims to Have Given Birth to Twins Which One is a Snake (Photos)

Nalongo Barbara Nvannungi, a woman in Nakawuka, Wakiso district in Ugandan, keeps a python at her home, but when wildlife authorities wanted to take it away, she claimed that "he" is her child, saying that she gave birth to twins in 2008, and reasoned that they cannot take her child away from her.
Residents are worried that the python could present a danger to the village and they went to Uganda Reptiles Village, Entebbe, asking them to take the python, but the mother is against taking away "her" child.

"I am the one who gave birth to him and can take care of him. A parent can't fail to take care of her child," she told Bukedde TV's local Luganda news bulletin Agataliiko Nfuufu.

"I am asking that they let me be with my child," she said while lovingly stroking the python! Nvannungi says that her husband Salongo Patrick Lubega passed away in late 2007 when she was pregnant.

However, she says the only witness who can confirm that she gave birth to the python is her sister because she didn't give birth in hospital.

"When I felt labour pains, I went with my sister to find transport to take us to hospital, but the child came fast and I gave birth to him in a garden," she says.

"I also gave birth to his sister a few moments later," she says. The sister, a girl is a human being not a reptile. Nvannungi's sister (on the left) is the only witness who can attest to the fact that she really gave birth to the reptile.

She says relatives have abandoned her and the snake is the only relative she knows, so they can't take him away from her.
Nalongo Nvannungi says that unfortunately ever since the passing of her husband who left her pregnant, she has not been able to find another man as every man is worried that she will give birth to another snake. "They fear me," she said.
Nalongo says she cannot allow wildlife people to take her child to a zoo. "I can't go visiting him among animals, because he is a human being," she said.
She added that no one else can take proper care of her child because she feeds him on more 40 eggs on a daily basis and a chicken every two days.
She asked residents to keep calm, saying that she is taking proper care of her "child". She even built "him" a house and says that he will not harm the locals.
However, the TV station reached out to a medical doctor, Joseph Wasswa Ssenkubuge who said that it is impossible for a human being to give birth to a snake, adding that it is a scheme the woman could be using to make money off curious people.

One Tekena Iyalla, said to be a presenter of the popular Radio Comedy show, Funky 4+1, took to the streets of Port Harcourt to protest against the incessant robbery, kidnapping and brutal attacks on residents of Ada George area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Wearing only a short and white singlet, Mr Iyalla, who has suffered several attacks himself took his protest to the state police command where he called on the Commissioner to protect lives & property

The Buhari administration has created a new set of millionaires- Lai Mohammed, says Nigeria is out of recession in Agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Mineral sectors

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was a guest on Channels TV this morning where he highlighted the gains of the Buhari-led administration, one of which he said is that the government has created a new set of millionaires through its agricultural policies. Speaking during the interview session, Lai Mohammed said;

"What this government has done is that in the area of agriculture, we have created a new set of millionaires in Kebbi, Imo, Jigawa, Kano states so much that today, these new farmers have been empowered and we have made agriculture quite attractive to them".

On why food prices have continued to increase in this administration, Lai Mohammed said

"In any country where you lack basic infrastructure like roads, railways, power, you are going to have a situation where the cost of food would go up and that is why we are investing in infrastructural development. On rail line, we have commenced the construction of the 150km per hour Lagos-Ibadan rail. We have been able to put down our $1.2bn counterpart funding that would make us do also Kano-Kaduna-Calabar and Port Harcourt line. By the time these things are put in place, traders would be able to bring tomatoes by train from Kano to Lagos ou would be able to bring food from the middlebelt and that is what is going to make your food cheap. As we speak today, what government is trying to do is how do we subsidize transportation of these food items to bring them down. So if you don't have power, roads, railways in any part of the world, the cost of food would go up".

According to the Minister, the government has been able to move the economy out of recession in the agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Mineral sectors.

"Despite these austere times, we actually did move out of recession in manufacturing, agriculture and solid minerals"

Lai Mohammed explained that Nigeria has been able to move out of recession in the manufacturing sector because of the government's commitment to "invest in infrastructure, to improve the ease of doing business and unlike the previous administration where 16% was spent on infrastructure in 2015, we spent 30% in 2017 and that is why you can see that we are climbing out of recession".

Lai added that in 2015, 29 sub sectors of the economy were under-performing but this administration has decreased the number to 16.

hoto: Police raid criminal hideout in Benue, arrest suspects planning attack on Zaki-Biam Yam market

The Benue State Police Command's Operation Zenda special crack squad, acting on reliable information, stormed a criminal hideout at Adamgbe Tse-lyssa Village along Benue - Taraba border on May 15 and arrested four suspects.

The suspects identified as Saayua Abashed, Isaac Usafa, Godwin Terlumun, and Aondohemba Abum, all male of various addresses in Benue and Taraba States.

Items recovered from them includes one locally fabricated pistol, a Chief revolver pistol with breech no. 44K 7755, one single barrel Dane gun and six expended AK47 ammunition.

The suspects have confessed to being responsible for series of armed robbery in parts of Benue and Taraba States, they equally confessed their plans to rob the Zaki-Biam yam market before the arrest. The suspects would soon be charged to court on completion of investigations.

Graphic photos: Young military officer 'mistaken' for armed robber lynched and burnt to death by mob in Ghana

A military officer with the (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra was on Monday, May 29th, lynched by residents of Denkyira Boaso of the Central region who mistook him for an armed robber.

Captain Maxwell Mahama who is commander of a military detachment in the area was jogging along the Denkyira Boaso-Diaso road when he asked some women for direction. He was not in a uniform.

The women reportedly called the Assembly man who organized the youths of the town to lynch him. They later burnt his body.

Meanwhile, Ghana Armed Forces have commenced investigations into the murder. The incident has sent heightened anxiety within the town after the perpetrators of the heinous crime realised the deceased was a military man on official duty.

The Armed Forces in a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Col. Aggrey-Quarshie said a fact-finding team led by the Chief of Army Staff is proceeding to the area to gather more information about the development.

"A high-powered fact-finding team led by the Chief of the Army Staff is proceeding to the scene of the incident to ascertain the facts of the case."

He said they were collaborating with the police and other security agencies to bring perpetrators to book.

“GAF is working closely with the police and other security agencies to unravel the full facts of the case.”

According to the Armed Forces, its “Initial report indicates the officer was lynched by locals of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region whilst he was jogging at about 08.30 am on Monday 29 May 2017, under circumstances yet to be verified.”

"The officer was the detachment commander of our troops on operational duties in the general area."

The Armed Forces has also urged its personnel to remain calm as the due procedure is taken to bring the perpetrators to book.

Nnamdi Kanu remembers pro-Biafrans killed on May 30th 2016, prays for them

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, visited the scene where some Biafra agitators were murdered on the 30th of May, 2016 to remember them on the one-year anniversary of the death and also pray for the repose of their souls.

During his visit to Eke Nkpor, the IPOB leader, who only recently got released from prison following his arrest last year, tearfully vowed that the death of those Biafra supporters reportedly killed by Nigerian security operatives will be avenged. While praying for them, he also promised that Biafra will be restored so that their death will not be in vain.

The visit was ahead of the sit at home being observed in the South-East states in remembrance of all who died in the fight to make Biafra a reality.
